It hit me last night as I was headed home after and looking back at my less than awesome workout for the day, every step in the right direction, no matter how small, is better than no step at all!
OK, honestly, it wasn’t the worst workout, but definitely lacked the drive and intensity I believe I am capable of.
I, like most people, can rattle off a list of excuses a mile long to explain away my lackluster performance in Tuesday’s workout. “It was hot.” “I didn’t sleep well the night before.” “I’m sore.” Blah, blah, blah!! I’m a bad influence on you. Seriously though, that does me no good and certainly doesn’t inspire more action the following day! Am I going to be able to sustain that high performance level in every workout? No, but I can choose how I look at my long term goals and remind myself that there will be highs and lows and that is part of the journey.
I WILL NOT LET YESTERDAY’S WORKOUT DETERMINE THE OUTCOME OF TODAY!
That’s it. Simple. Yesterday is in the past, and today is within my control! This is how my internal dialogue has to be if I want to stay the course and keep moving toward my goal weight. Anthony Robbins says, “Where focus goes, energy flows.” I’m CHOOSING to direct my energy toward FOCUSING ON PROGRESS and not expecting perfection.
